how to make IRC alert customization upgrade safe

Please advise on how to avoid upgrade wipe off the IRC alert notification modifications/customization ?  We see some notifications are marked as obsolete in the latest version which were not in the previous versions

Example: IRC_JobAppy_Thanks_External- Obselete

 

Any document or guidance would be of a great help.
