Summary

RMAN Backups of SE database on Oracle Linux to Standard Object Storage Performance

Content

We have a SE database on Oracle Linux.  It's approximately 1.5 T.  It's a test/dev database.  On-prem it takes about 8 hours to backup this database to an on-site backup device (fiber, spindle to spindle, plenty of CPU headroom).

I just backed up "copy" of that database that's sitting on an Oracle Linux VM to Standard Object Storage at it took almost 24 hours to backup 1.5T.

I know the database/VM has plenty of resources because we've pounded it for hours with extremely IO intensive processes for another test and it performed about 3x our on-prem system.
