Changing Step/Status of Candidates from Search Tab

I'm wondering if there is a way to change the step/status of candidates from the Search tab. In other words, if we complete an advanced search (for a specific requisition) in the Search tab, can we change the status of candidates that meet our desired criteria from the results of that search? Right now, our team keeps two browser tabs open - one to do the advanced search and one to have the requisition candidate list open where they change the step/status of the candidates. Does anyone have any tips/best practices to share?
