Any use case for auto scaling without load balancer

Is it possible to use an Instance pool without an associated load balancer ?

I'm wondering if autoscaling would help without load balancer, as the docs states "Optionally, you can associate one or more load balancers with an instance pool."

If yes, then how the load will be distributed after scaling out ?
