How do you setup custom object permissions

I need to have GET and POST access to a custom object.  I added the URL pattern to my custom object per the mandatory step "Manage the Proxy User Configuration Data".   I'm getting "405 - Method Not Allowed" in my GET response.   Can someone tell me what to configure for custom object access.
