Hiding an expense template from the LOV

After end-dating an expense template, is it possible to hide that expense template from the LOV on the expense entry page? Currently, users can still use that expense template if they enter an expense item with a date prior to when the template was end-dated. Does anyone know if this can be done via a sandbox or any other configuration?
