Best Practice to retire an unused Element

Summary

Element was created during implementation, not used and not needed

Content

Hello,

I am looking for a best practice on how to "retire" an element that was created during implementation.

We never used the element and do not have any future requirements for it.

What is the best way to ensure the element is not used?

Do I just need to delete the element eligibility or end date it?

We also have fixed costing loaded on the element. Should this be end dated as well?

Thanks!
