Zoomed Report Does Not Download to Excel

We have a report with several lines enabled to zoom to children.  When the lines are expanded, the report will not download to Excel.  With the lines collapsed, the report downloads without issue.  Importing the report thru Smart View only shows the lines as collapsed, there is no ability to expand line.

Is this a known issue to be corrected in the future?  Or do we need to take this limitation into consideration when designing reports and not enable zoom?
