Page Customization on Customer Account not working

Hi,
We have a requirement where we need to make "Account Type" as Required in Customer Account. We made page customization and made the field "Required". Once the Sandbox is published, the Customer Account page is showing that "Account Type" is required filed, but, it is allowing NULL value to be selected and saved successfully. Can any one please let us know how to make the "Account Type" field as Required? Do I need to change anything else? Attaching the document of screenshots.
