What is the use of Creating Legal entity

Hi Folks,

During implementation, we use to Create a Legal entity as a step,

But what is the need /benefits of creating LE, and in case we have 3 BU  and need to create all of them under the same LE

what will be the impact and what is the advantages and disadvantages
