Link to a file saved in a network drive

Hi,

 

Is there a way we can configure a link to open a file saved in a network drive? Or we need UCM/WCC to be able to access the file?

The POC requirement is to create a text field for the user to enter a filename. Then create a link then use that filename and concatenate it to the network drive path. I've tried this approach but wasn't able to open the file (tested it using my local drive).
