Do external candidates on a succession plan have to be a candidate from Recruiting?

Hi all,

I know there's an option to bring external candidates into a succession plan, but I am assuming these are true applicants that are coming from the recruiting side (correct me if I'm wrong). We are hoping to bring in something like "person of interest." This would cover people who wouldn't be applying for a specific role, but may be associated with the company in some other way (e.g., acts on an advisory board) and would be a good external successor.

I am assuming we can define this person type of "person of interest" on the Core HR side, but is there any way to bring that person type into a succession plan? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
