Masking Personal Information on Career Site

We are considering enabling the functionality to mask personal information on the career site. According to the user guide, fields identified as personal information, such as Social Security Number, can be configured such that if candidates enter a value in the field and save the page, the value is no longer displayed in the field and asterisks are displayed in place of the value on the Summary page.
Has anyone implemented this feature? Any feedback on this functionality?
