Best Practice to Maintain Grades/Assignment/Salary Connection

We do not use grade steps/ladders.
Now on team compensation we see salary rows of 10/20/2020 that do not show a grade.
I would assume this should show at the least the grade effective at that time. How do others that don't use compensation and grade progression keep the assignment and salary information in sync?
