PBCS - Comments - alternatives

Alternatives to attachment notes and comment period for PBCS.

In PBCS, the client used to use the attachment functionality for appending notes for variance reporting.

I demonstrated and built using a text Period for Comments, but the downside to this is the rollup, so users had to input comments very carefully to upper level members (excluding accounts) and the other downside to this was that the functionality was not useable in ASO based FRS reports with expandable content.

Does anyone know of any other in system alternatives for easily used input and maintenance of comments for variance reporting purposes that are available in PBCS, or in a complimentary product?
