Can a credit memo attached to a Rec Invoice be changed to on account CM or attach to a diff invoice?

Summary:

Can a credit memo attached to a Receivables Invoice be changed to an On account credit memo or be attached to a different Receivables invoice?

We have a scenario where some of our customers have invoices with credit memos attached to an invoice are choosing to apply the credit memos to invoices other than the one originally attached to the invoice.

On the credit memo, the invoice originally associated with the credit memo is shown in the "Original Transaction Number Field".

Is there a way to change a credit memo from having an association with its invoice (referenced by the Original transaction Number field) and either:
