FR Report Que : Display Yeartotal on FR report and allow user to expand only if rqd

Summary:

We want to develop FR report in excel format such that the report opens at Yeartotal level and then allow the user to expand to month level only if the user wants. This is feasible in HTML view, but I wanted to check if there is anyway this can be achieved in Excel format. Please advice.
