Can we disable "future" segments in a Chart of Account structure?

Summary:

We are setting up 2 future segments in the Chart of Account structure - for future use. Is it possible to disable those future segments in the chart of account structure so transactions don't include those 2 future segments? I know there is an option to default it to 000 or any value but the business doesn't want to see those 2 segments for now. So disable them until it is deemed necessary to use them in the future.
