New Item Request auto promote to approval based on condition

Summary:

We need to be able to auto promote new item request from open to approval status based on item type. Anyone has done anything similar and can share how they did it?

Content (required):

When Item Type = Configured Item, we want to auto promote the New Item Request status to Approval (submitted it to approval).

However, when item type is not configured item, we do not want to auto promote to approval as there will be rejects and whenever rejects happened, auto promote will generate a loop and automatically submitted for re-approval before user update rejected record.

How do we have auto promote based on different criteria?
