OCI: How to Use Boot Volumes for Oracle Linux Instance Recovery

edited Jun 20, 2022 6:26AM in Linux 2 comments

Applies to:

Oracle Linux Cloud Service - Version Oracle Linux 6.0 and later

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

Linux x86-64

Goal

If an Oracle Linux instance in OCI is not booting up correctly and you have checked/identified the issue using serial console. When you need an action like fsck on root filesystem which is not possible from single user mode, you can use the “Boot Volumes” to be attached to another instance as data volume and do filesystem check or other recovery steps.

The steps are same for both VM and BM shapes.

Solution

1. Login to your Tenancy using https://console.us-phoenix-1.oraclecloud.com

Howdy, Stranger!
