Are SKU properties robust enough to assign many attributes?

Summary of the question:

The products customer working with can have a dozen attribute types associated with them—from colors and size to year and make of vehicles. Are SKU properties robust enough to assign so many attributes at that level? What about multi-select on SKU properties? i.e. One SKU can have up to 60 vehicle “fitments” (year+model combos)
