How do I fix this error: "You don't have permission to view these resources in this compartment"?

Summary:

I am unable to view or access my instances (always-free tier). The issue being faced is having very similar characteristics as this post: https://community.oracle.com/customerconnect/discussion/637510/you-don-t-have-permission-to-view-these-resources-in-this-compartment

I had two VMs in always-free tier. Both of them were working few days ago, when I try to access them today, I am not able to. When I check the 'instances' page, I am faced with the error: "You don't have permission to view these resources in this compartment."

Kindly help get this sorted out soonest for me and please point me to how I can prevent this from happening. I hadn't done anything much that could cause the access to get withdrawn, so this is very strange and surprising.
