OCI: How to Extend Root Partition in Standard Oracle Linux 6 Instance After Increasing Boot Volume

APPLIES TO:

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - Version N/A and later

Information in this document applies to any platform.

GOAL:

Need to add Customer Boot Volume of 500 GB to root volume

SOLUTION:

Increasing the root filesystem in Oracle Linux 6 requires changing the root partition boundaries and then

extending the filesystem itself.

For a standard Oracle Linux 6 instance the following steps are provided as a guide. They may not match exactly

every Oracle Linux 6 instance so a review of the steps should be performed before applying them to a particular

instance.

  • Perform a full backup of the instance boot volume. This is a needed precaution in case a problem arises during this process and a backup is needed to restore previous settings.

Howdy, Stranger!
