how to create maintenance requirement based on type: item

Summary:

Hi I would like to know what are the characteristics or specifications which an item must met in order to create a maintenance requirement item type in a maintenance program.

Content (required):

when I tried to select an item it does not show anything even filling out the exact Item number, so I would like to know what are the exact specifications or conditions which an Item must met to use this feature.

it doesn´t need to create several work orders , what I´am attemping to do is to create a single requirement for several assets and then create a work or per each asset.
