Understanding Default Access on Course versus Default Access Offering

Summary:

I have configured the ‘Catalog Defaults’ (under Setup) to ‘Requested’ for both learner and manager self-service “Initial learning record status”, and I have enabled/checked the “Activate enrollment requests automatically after approval” box.

I have now read that if you set this as a default, the Learner has to enroll in the Course first – which goes for approval, and then they can select and enroll in an Offering, which will also go for approval.

◦ For courses, if Initial Learning Record Status is Requested, the linked offerings won't have the Enroll button because this status prevents direct enrollment. Learners have to enroll in the course before they can enroll in the offering. Also, the learner’s course enrollment goes through an approval process.
