How To Boot Into Single User Mode on Oracle Linux 6

You may wish to boot into single user mode on Oracle Linux in order to perform system maintenance, or to attempt to recover or repair a server that is experiencing software errors and won't finish booting into the OS properly.

In Oracle Linux 7 (OL7) or higher, init.d and runlevels (including runlevel 1 or single user mode) have been replaced by systemd and targets. The equivalent to single user mode on OL7 or higher is emergency mode.
