How to ensure Pension Salary Sacrifice reduces Taxable Pay and Niable Pay

I have created a Negative Earnings element that is fed as an indirect result from a Vol Ded/ Pension Plan After tax. But the taxable and niable pay is not returning the expected results despite the negative earnings element feeding Niable and Taxable pay. The run balances show the reduced Taxable and Niable pay so I am not sure what I am missing to check here.
