Ksplice Error "Unable to Install This Update Because Your Running Kernel Has Been Modified"

edited Feb 24, 2023 3:39PM in Linux

An Oracle Linux server encounters errors when attempting to download and install new ksplice uptrack updates, and fails with the error message, as seen in the following example:

# uptrack-upgrade -n

Effective kernel version is 2.6.32-754.12.1.el6

Error processing ksplice-exiqeyz1.tar.gz

The following actions failed:

Install [exiqeyz1] CVE-2019-11091, CVE-2018-12126, CVE-2018-12130, CVE-2018-12127: Microarchitectural Data Sampling.

Ksplice was unable to install this update because your running kernel has been modified from the version provided by your vendor.

Please contact ksplice-support_ww@oracle.com for help resolving this issue.

This error has multiple possible causes and can occur if there are third-party kernel modules currently installed on the server that conflict with Ksplice. If you are encountering this error, please file a service request with Oracle support for further information and assistance with this issue.
