Locking entities

All prior periods including years need to be locked first?

I could not lock entities for FY16 Dec (first month we loaded data). System kept saying Invalid data.

But when I tried to do following, it works:

1. Go to Jan 14

2. Start the group. Run consolidation for the period.

3. Lock top entity in group, it locks everything below it.

I suppose now we have to cycle thru all off FY14,15,16? Is there another option?
