"Apply Receipts Using Automatch" when does this process run?

"Apply Receipts Using Automatch" process. When does this subprocess process initiate?

We have not been able to decipher a pattern of when this process runs or not. We often attach transactions to receipts using the Process receipts Through Lockbox job. When it runs, we sometimes see "Apply Receipts Using Automatch" subprocess kickoff and sometimes we do not.

We get the same end result either way (i.e.. a transactions attched to a receipt), so this behavior doesn't make sense to us.

Any help is appreciated.
