Earnings elements summation YTD using Fast Formula

Looking for suggestions to get the earnings elements summation using Fast Formula

Our client has a requirement where the bonus is awarded based on the earnings (year-to-date)  from different elements.The elements are plenty in number so, we decided to use the fast formula to define eligible salary based on earnings.

We have created a Balance where we are summing up all the earnings YTD for different elements and then trying to call this fast formula.

The challenge that we are facing here is: We cannot use payroll Balances directly in Compensation Default and Override type formula.

Can anyone share any sample formula where they are using earnings from different elements and using it in compensation for eligible salary?
