Sales Order Numbering across BUs

Summary:

Looking for a workaround, solution or suggestion to have unique sales order numbers across BUs and/ or Order Types. We have around 20 BUs, we need to segregate the numbering across these BUs.

I am aware of the below similar posting on this issue. However, no concrete solution has been provided so far. Can someone please suggest an idea or workaround, other than the below posting.
