RPL and EMD #data

Is it possible to assign #data without connecting to the main contact list using RPL?  We have a supplemental table and in Classic Campaigns, we would assign Defaults & Variables to pull the appropriate data from a supplemental table to populate fields in our email.  Is it possible to do something similar in RPL?
