Question: Need of a test envionment?

Hi

We are running a Responsys instance with 450.000 members - went live 3 month ago. Now we want to make changes and I have a question in connection with that. Am I right to assume that I do not need a new environment for development/test - all I need is to write towards a CONTACT_TEST_LIST still using the production environment?

Lookign forward to hearing back from anyone with such an experience.
