Help understanding how a data switch works

When using a data switch to filter based on criteria like domain, are the resulting records limited to the initial view? Meaning, the data switch filter will only return those that match the filter criteria AND were in the initial view?

The program view is a Filter based on PET data.

The data switch filter is based off the contact list and matches on domain.

Will the data switch return domain matches for the entire contact list, or just those records which are a part of the PET data?

Trying to determine if the program will work with the existing filters, or if I need to create a new filter for the data switch with both PET and domain.
