Displaying a count of the number of records in a list

Hello,


I'm looking to see if there is a way to display/add up the total number of specific records in a list and display that as a number in an e-mail.

Basically:  A Customer has made 5 separate purchases.  They show up in the SQL View 5 times.  Is there a way to display something like:  Congratulations, you have just made your 5th purchase? (with the 5th number being populated based on the list?)

Please let me know of any ideas.
