Future Budget Date

Is it possible to update a budget date on a Requisition/PO after the related invoice has been paid?

We have a requisition and related PO with a budget date in the future (2/28/19).  The PO was dispatched and fulfilled.  The invoice is paid but not accounted because the PO is not encumbered due to the future budget date.  Is there anyway to update the budget date?  Has anyone experienced this before?
