How to include multiple wildcarded products in an Eloqua segment

in Eloqua 2 comments

We perform segmentation on a variety of customer responses to our marketing, and often those responses are tied to product model numbers.  Keysight has hundreds of products, often with similar model numbers, and using wildcards is an easy way to capture a small product family.

There are many times, though, when we need to segment on customers showing interest in a large number of our products, and we want to list a large number of wildcards like this:

find customers interested in   123A*, 345B*, 678C*     you get the idea.

Problem?  Eloqua only lets us enter ONE of these in a segment element (the segment pieces separated by AND or OR...is there an official term?) at a time.  We can only look for one wildcard in each element.  That means we add a new element for each wildcard.  AND...Eloqua only allows about 15 of these elements in each segment.  There are times we have many more products that need to be included, and we end up with 2 or 3 segments with 10-15 wildcards each.  That is a ton of work, and all because the Eloqua segmenting engine can't think
