Hardbounce and Invalid Emails

I'm currently investigating an email address which Eloqua has tagged as hardbounce / invalid. Upon checking with the person who provided us the email address, it seems like it's an active address which they have been using to directly communicate with the contact. Just wondering how this was tagged as an invalid email? Is there a way to reset a contact's "hardbounce" status within the system?
