Is there a way to actually remove an email group status once it exists?

Email groups have three states: No Status, Subscribed, and Unsubscribed

We want to be able to take somebody that is either Subscribed or Unsubscribed and change them to a No Status.

I couldn't find a way in the UI or API. This has been an issue for us for a long time.

Use Case:

Using data from an integration, we know somebody has a certain relationship with our organization and should be subscribed to certain content, so we subscribe them.

We use the email group to allow them to unsubscribe from that content.
