General question on what people do for an off cycle salary and/or promotion in HCM?

Summary:

Investigating how to improve the off cycle process for salary and/or job changes outside of WFC cycles. How to streamline in HCM so less manual work outside the system.

Content (required):

I'm looking for feedback from other organizations on how you handle your off cycle salary/promotions (i.e. outside of a workforce compensation plan). Is most of the process handled manually and then the change salary, etc. transactions are performed in HCM? Or does anyone use a Journey or workflow? We are trying to figure out how to streamline the process from start to finish. Our process now is mainly handled via emails but that is hard to keep up with, no reminders, and managers then sometimes forget to actually input the salary change or job change transaction. Looking for any feedback
