Automatic launch of plugin

Summary: Is it possible to launch a plugin based on field conditions?

Content (required): For example when a technician installs an inventory item and indicates the inventory should be billed to the customer, we want to display the item's price to the technician, however because 'Inventory' fields are natively isolated from 'Activity' fields in OFS, we have to use a plugin to fetch the price then patch that price into an activity field so we can display it to the technician (in the activity details screen). This process works, but relies on the technician to press a button to launch the plugin.
