Prevent order line change if shipment is assigned

We have a business requirement to prevent edits to an order line if the shipment has been assigned to the corresponding shipment line.

We recently opted in to "Update Attributes on Split Order Lines for Partial Shipments". We have a business requirement to prevent edits to an order line if the shipment has been assigned to the corresponding shipment line. The shipment isn't picked or staged, just the shipment number has been assigned and in Ready to Release status. The order line is still at Awaiting Shipping. Is there a way to accomplish this via a processing constraint or extension?
