What is the limitation of sales order extension while accessing the item UDA

Hi Team,

We have a requirement to pull the data from item UDA which is not directly defined under Root Item Class into order management. We are using order extension to achieve this but we are not able to do so. Can you please let us know if this is something we can achieve. Also if there is any document around this than it would really help us.
