Maxing out UDF Rich format field even though set to 4,000

Summary: Has anyone had any luck adding a UDF text field to the job description/qualifications section of a job posting and having it hold lots of text? I want to add an 'intro' and 'closing' field to separate it out from the delivered job description and qualification fields to allow for easy updating and lock down other fields. I have the field set to 4,000 but just with Ariel font html, no bullets, I can only put in 700 ish characters before I get the message that the size has been exceeded. I found a knowledge document
