Alerts: set the reminder 7 days before the assignment due date expiration

Hi experts,
I have created an alert to remind learner to complete an assignment by the due date. The reminder should be send 7 days before the due date expirations.
I tried with ${assignmentDueDate} < trunc(sysdate)+6 but doesn't quite work.
Could you help me to find the best solution to set up the reminder?
