Description Based Asset creation is not allowing to associate this asset with subscription product

Summary:

We have created an asset unchecking the inventory item option and also captured the serial, Asset was selected at customer locations and we have captured customer details too.

Later when we are trying to associate this asset to a subscription product line, it is not allowing to do the association

Is this intended functionality that Non item based asset cannot be associated later? Appreciate your input.
