How to set soft or hard limit for the number of user's processes “nproc”?

GOAL:

This note provides a guideline for Linux system administrators to control and limit the number of processes each user can run on a linux system.

 

SOLUTION:

To set the nproc soft and hard values, you can edit either the /etc/security/limits.conf file or files within the /etc/security/limits.d/ directory:

 

1- Edit the /etc/security/limits.conf file to set nproc soft and hard values:
