OCI : oci-growfs Fails to Extend Partition

Applies to: 

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - Version N/A and later  

Linux x86-64 on Oracle Public Cloud  

 

Symptoms: 

After extending boot volume in OCI console and running the scan commands, oci-growfs is giving below error during execution:

# /usr/libexec/oci-growfs 
root VG: ocivolume 
NOCHANGE: partition 3 is size 95371264. it cannot be grown 

Cause: 

Article below explains that oci-growfs utility or other manual approach involves deleting the last partition and recreate a new partition using available blocks. Since /dev/sda3 is not the last partition in this case, its size cannot be increased.
