Can you add another period to an existing Accounting calendar

Summary: I have an Accounting Calendar assigned to an existing active Ledger. The calendar has 15 periods (The calendar runs from January to December and period one, fourteen & fifteen are adjustment periods). Business would like to add another adjustment period to this calendar which I understand is not possible. Could you please provide confirmation and also provide reasons why?
